Sand or Rice Bags

This is a fun way to for children (preschool-elementary) to practice targeted articulation sounds. 

Supplies:  three re-sealable clear bags,  sand or rice to fill each bag 3/4 of the way, picture cards

1.  Choose which sound you want the child to target (based on their most current assessment and needs). 
2.  Look on line for pictures of the items in your target sound's list.  I used Google Image but there are many search engines that you could use to find pictures or you could draw or take your own. 
3.  Put the pictures into the grid below.  Print two copies. Cut them out and tape them together so that each picture is back to back with the same picture.  This can also be used to laminate them.  If you glue them back to back you may want to laminate them so that they stay unwrinkled longer.
4.  Put all the pictures with the target sound in the initial position in one bag.  Fill with sand to 3/4.  Then, seal bag.  Do the same for a bag with medial and final position pictures. 
5.  Now you can have the child shake, or manipulate the bags to find pictures.  Then, have them use the word in phrases or sentences, depending on appropriate level of difficult at that time. 
6.  These can be reused with many children.
