I am only going to
include books that I personally have read on this list because I would hate to
recommend something that I think is questionable.
The Speed of Dark: A Novel
by Elizabeth Moon is a fictional novel about a man who has high
functioning autism. In this sci-fi type story a cure for autism is found
and he has to decide what he will do about it. It really made me
think. Excellent, thought-provoking, interesting read.
Although, I didn't particularly care for the ending. :)
Being with Rachel: A Personal Story of Memory and Survival
by Karen Brennan is an autobiography about Karen Brennan caring for her daughter following a
traumatic brain injury. Again, this is a thought-provoking novel.
There were a few "too vivid" descriptions in the novel but it quickly
moves on.
Raising a Sensory Smart Child: The Definitive Handbook for Helping Your Child with SensoryProcessing IssuesThe Speed of Dark: A Novel
Being with Rachel: A Personal Story of Memory and Survival
Front of the Class (Hallmark Hall of Fame: Gold Crown Collector's Edition)
My Kitty Catsberger by John M. Ortiz PhD is an excellent children's book that can help children with Asperger's Syndrome and their peers see that having Asperger's Syndrome is okay. I attended a conference by the late Dr. Ortiz and was very impressed with his perception of Asperger's and what we can do to aide these children (and adults).
