Calendar

In my opinion, every pt with memory and/or cognitive deficits should have a calendar in their home/room!  There are calendars at the dollar store or free templates on-line.  Using the calendar will help with orientation issues, memory issues, and confusion.  Help them put on appts, cross out each day as it ends, circle important days (anniversary, birthday, expected discharge from hospital or rehab).
Be sure to make the numbers and the name of the month as big as necessary because many elderly people have poor eye sight.  You may even need to arrange for them to have a desk calendar so that they can read it.

Something basic like this can be created in any word processor and then it can be customized for the month and the patient.  To make one like this just put a line above at table (hold ctrl and - down until the line is as long as you want it) with 7 columns and 7 rows.  In the op row put the days of the week.
