Describe and Guess

I love playing this little game with kids from preschool through the elementary years.  You can do it with any picture cards.  I usually do it with Original Memory but have done it with lots of different pictures.

1.  Mix up all the cards so that neither of you know which is which.
2.  Have the first person pick up a card and look at the picture.
3.  Now they start to describe the picture.  Have them tell size, shape, color, texture, use, alive/not alive, and any other qualities that you or they can think of.
4.  Then, the other person guesses what it is.
5.  If the guesser get it right it is now their turn to pic a card.  If they get it wrong have the describer keep describing.  (If a child is having a hard time describing the picture you can ask them questions to draw out information.   After playing it several times the child should be able to describe with fewer cues.)

This is a good game for auditory comprehension, joint attention, increased MLU, using descriptors, and any number of other language goals.
